Medicine Hat Field Hockey

Interested in trying the exciting sport of field hockey? There is no age limit to when you can start! Field hockey is one of the most popular in the world so there must be something great about it!

Field hockey is a non-contact game of possession, elimination, and tackling.

Players in this class will learn the rules of the game, proper grip and posture, ball and stick control, how to receive, trap, pass and dribble the ball and positioning. There will be fun games and a scrimmage to help reinforce the skills learned.

Medicine Hat Spring League

New to Medicine Hat this year, we will be offering a Cochrane spring league! Spring league will consist of Funstix (ages 6-9) and Medicine Hat Hurricanes (ages 10-14). Practices will be held once a week at the Family Leisure Center on Sundays, 11 am - 12 pm, starting May 5th and running until June 16th. There will also be two festivals in June: Red Deer and Calgary.

The Funstix program is based on the fundamentals of field hockey. It is designed to introduce kids to the non-contact, fast-paced, skillful and above all, FUN sport of Field Hockey. Older players will focus on basic skill development while introducing team tactics. All skills are taught through fun drills and weekly mini-games.

T-shirts will be provided. Athletes will need shin pads, socks, water bottle, and a mouth guard.
