Fall High Performance Program

Field Hockey Alberta High Performance Program

The FHAHPP is a big step in the future international career of any young talented field hockey player. We invest in individual development and in- and off-field team skills. By participating in 4 big events during the year combined with a carefully constructed training plan we stimulate each athlete to become the best field hockey player they can be.

Fall Program

The first program of the year is the fall program. The program will be run from August until November. The main focus will be on improving individual basic skills. The athletes focus on their personal (technical) ability and individual development. Key individual focus points during the fall program will be:

Hours on field training:

Hours on field strength and condition training:

Hours off field strength and condition training:

* If on field training is not possible due to the weather conditions trainings are being moved to an indoor location

** Training hours include try-outs

*** At least 8 athletes are needed per group to support a program

The FHA HPP only has space for a maximum of 25 athletes per group. This means if there are more than 25 players at tryouts for the program there will be a selection. The provincial team is an open selection, this means athletes may be added and removed during the entire program. Playing in a program does not guarantee a spot on the provincial team or any other programs although attendance in programs will be taken in consideration.

FHA is a non-profit organisation so all money will be used for the HPP. The costs of the program depends on the number of athletes joining the program / costs for pitch rental / materials etc. The estimated costs of the program are $250 for the girls and $175 for the boys.

At the end of each program FHA will organize or participate in an event. These events are optional and athletes are not obligated to join these events. The costs of the events are separate from the FHA HPP program and the specific costs are dependent on event the team is attending. Participating in these events will not influence selections for other programs or the provincial teams. We do recommend athletes participate in these events when possible as it will help in their development.
