U16 & U18 - BOYS AND GIRLS DIVISIONS

Are you ready to make a real impact on Alberta’s next generation of field hockey stars? Field Hockey Alberta is looking for passionate, dedicated coaches to lead our 2026 Junior Provincial Teams through an exciting year of development, competition, and growth. This is your chance to mentor talented athletes, be part of a supportive coaching team, and contribute to a program with the potential to evolve into a multi-year coaching journey - shaping the future of field hockey in our province.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Coaches who:

  • Bring strong technical and tactical field hockey expertise
  • Inspire athletes with a positive, athlete-centred approach
  • Create a competitive, supportive, and growth-focused environment
  • Are committed to long-term athlete development and continuous learning
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, interpersonal, and team skills, with effective time-management
  • Can commit to a full-year coaching cycle, with the potential to evolve into a three-year position (winter training > selection > summer training > Nationals > fall training)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and deliver training sessions, camps, and competitions aligned with provincial standards and long-term athlete development guidelines
  • Provide mentorship in a positive, athlete-centered environment
  • Attend National Championships and participate in end-of-season program reviews
  • Participate in FHA-supported professional development opportunities to maintain and enhance coaching skills

CERTIFICATION & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT REQUIREMENTS (ALL COACHES)

  • NCCP Safe Sport trained (required)
  • Competition Introduction (U16) or Competition Development (U18) trained (preferred)
  • Experience coaching or mentoring youth athletes in competitive or developmental field hockey environments
  • Coaches are required to complete a minimum of three NCCP or equivalent approved professional development activities annually (e.g. FHC, FIH, PAHF courses, etc.)
  • Approved courses will be subsidized by FHA as part of its commitment to coach development

COACHING COMMITMENT

One-year commitment (January-December), with the potential to evolve into a three-year position, including:

  • Winter training sessions leading into the selection phase
  • Spring talent ID and team selection
  • Training blocks from April through July
  • Participate in at least 80% of scheduled training sessions, camps, and competitions

Tentative National Championships Dates:

  • U18 Nationals - Surrey, BC: July 21-26, 2026
  • U16 Nationals - Calgary, AB: August 4-9, 2026

ADDITIONAL PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coach Meetings: Join regularly scheduled coach meetings to collaborate, share learnings and expertise, and support consistent athlete development
  • Program Reviews: Participate in a formal 360° review meeting at the conclusion of the season and submit a final coaching report
  • Work within FHA’s performance framework, with FHA providing alignment, administrative support, and resources to support long-term athlete development (non-technical).
