Call for 2017 Coaches

The 2017 Provincial Program will be in full swing in May 2017. Our High Performance programs are in need of qualified and passionate coaches to work within the Field Hockey High Performance Program.

If you are interested in working within our program please email Peter Taylor fhahighperformance@gmail.com  with the following:

Desired program/ age group you wish to work with

  1. HP Academy Trainer
  2. FHA provincial coach- please specify the age group you wish to work with (see page 2)

Program Summaries and approx. time commitments:

*Please note: the days/ hours listed are an approximation. Specific details will be given at the HP Coaching meeting in late March.

 

HP Academy Trainer:

  • working under the direction of the FHA HP Director (Peter Taylor) and Provincial coaches
  • working with multiple age groups
  • learning FHA HP model
  • commitment required: one weekly session (1-4 hours/ week)
  • potential to also work with the Provincial teams
  • preferred qualifications: playing and or coaching at the high school level (minimum)

 

FHA Provincial Coach:

  • working under the direction of the FHA HP Director (Peter Taylor)
  • coordinating and running provincial academy sessions and team specific planning
  • travelling to major competitions*
  • developing a year plan and season evaluation (in conjunction with FHA staff)
  • preferred qualifications: playing and or coaching at the provincial level

Specific Programs:

U15 Girls:

  • Academy/ training sessions: weekly commitment (May-July)
    • Friday evening (2 hour session),
    • Saturday (1.5 hour session),
    • Sunday morning (2 hour session)
    • Wednesday evening (2 hour session) * mixed age groups
  • U15 Nations West Vancouver July 18th -23rd

U15 Boys:

  • Academy/ training sessions: weekly commitment (May-July)
    • Friday evening (2 hour session),
    • Saturday (1.5 hour session),
    • Sunday morning (2 hour session)
    • Wednesday evening (2 hour session) * mixed age groups
  • U15 Nations West Vancouver July 18th -23rd

Field Hockey Canada Men’s Indoor Trial Information

Field Hockey Canada’s indoor program will commence its journey to the next International Hockey Federation, Indoor World Cup. It was declared last week that Berlin, Germany will host the Hockey Indoor World Cup February 7-11, 2018.

Field Hockey Canada’s Indoor Program will hold an open camp the weekend of Feb 25th – 26th at the University of Toronto’s, Athletic Centre, 55 Harbord St, Toronto. Athletes will take part in fitness testing, skill training and matches.

The sessions will be run at the following times:

Feb 25: 8:30AM – 10:30AM 

Feb 25: 5:30PM – 7:30PM

Feb 26: 9:00AM – 11:00AM

Each session will begin promptly at the start time. Please arrive early to check-in and warm up. Meetings with athletes will be scheduled around these training sessions.

Athletes will be selected from the Feb 25-26 weekend to take part in an intersquad series the weekend of either March 25-26 OR April 1-2. These athletes will compete to be selected for the Indoor National Squad.

The cost to attend the camp and following interquad session is $150. Instructions on payment will be sent out after you register. To register for this weekend please email  sandison@hotmail.com

New Calgary Junior Program Coordinator

We are excited to introduce Huyen Way as our new Calgary Junior Program Coordinator!  Huyen will be organizing the U12, U14 & U18 Calgary leagues and Funstix Sites.  She can be reached at hwaycjp@gmail.com. We are thrilled to have Huyen as a part of our team!

Office Closure

The Field Hockey Alberta office will be closed until January 10th, 2017.  We will be checking our mail and emails periodically during the closure.

Indoor Umpiring Course

Location: Banff Trail basement hall (2115 20 Ave NW)

Dates:  Mon 9 Jan    7-10 p.m.    Wed 11 Jan  7-10 p.m.

The first session will concentrate on the Indoor Rules, the second on Umpiring. You need to attend BOTH sessions for the presentation component of the FHC Indoor Provincial Umpiring Course. Both sessions are FREE to FHAC members. There may be a small charge for CLFHA or other FHA members.

Advanced Registration is Required if you wish to certify as an umpire, so I can send out preparatory information.

Cost    – FREE to all FHAC members:

Advanced Registration is Required if you wish to certify as an umpire. 

With limited availability of assessors this indoor season, we cannot guarantee those who don’t register will be coached and assessed.
