Junior Coaching Program

This program begins Saturday February 23rd. At the end of March, all attendees will be fully trained NCCP Community level coaches. You will have all the skills required to be able to coach Funstix or CJP beginners (U12)

COST: Free to all CJP and FHA High Performance junior athletes, with coaching commitment. FHA coaches are welcome to participate with priority given to junior athletes.

The NCCP Community Coach Program consists of three NCCP multisport modules, a two part Field Hockey specific Community Coaching Course, and Emergency First Aid and CPR Certification

NCCP MultiSport Module 1: Make Ethical Decisions

MED is one of the NCCP’s cornerstone workshops, and leaves coaches with no doubt as to what to do when the going gets tough. Delivered by an Alberta Sport professional, this three and a half hour module will fully equip coaches to handle ethical situations with confidence and surety. MED training helps coaches identify the legal, ethical, and moral implications of difficult situations that present themselves in the world of team and individual sport.

Upon completing the MED module you’ll be able to:

  • analyze a challenging situation and determine if it has moral, legal or ethical implications;
  • apply the NCCP Ethical Decision-Making Model to properly respond to each situation in a way that is consistent with the NCCP Code of Ethics.

Date: Feb 23 11:30-3:30pm
Location: Memorial Park Library, Meeting Room #2

NCCP MultiSport Module 2: Make Headway in Sports

Part of the NCCP Community Coaching Pathway, intended for junior coaches registered in the CJP Junior Coaching Program, Making Headway is a 3 hour internet delivered workshop, facilitated by the CJP administration.

The Make Head Way in Sport NCCP module covers:

  • what to do to prevent concussions,
  • how to recognize the signs and symptoms of a concussion,
  • what to do when you suspect an athlete has a concussion, and
  • Return to Play and Return to Learn protocols.

Date: Mar 9, 12:00-3:00pm
Location: Memorial Park Library, Meeting Room #2

NCCP MultiSport Module 3: Fundamental Movement Skills

The Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) of throwing, catching, jumping, striking, running, kicking, agility, and balance and coordination, form the basis for future sport skill development and for the life-long enjoyment of physical activity. Learn how to observe and improve the fundamental movement skills through a five hour workshop delivered by Alberta Sport learning experts

The FMS module will give participants the skills to:

  • analyze and identify the various stages of development for the fundamental movement skills;
  • apply a six-step process to teaching the fundamental movement skills;
  • create safe games where children can practise fundamental movement skills.
