FHA Program Coordinator and Head Coach

This position is a combined project between Field Hockey Alberta and the University of Calgary Dinos. The Program Coordinator and Head Coach works with both organizations in a combined full-time position focused on field hockey in Alberta.

Position Description for Field Hockey Alberta:

The goal is to refine the high-performance program and develop youth field hockey within the province. The chosen candidate will help lead and develop field hockey across the province. The successful candidate will work with the technical director to coordinate the centres of excellence.

Field Hockey Alberta has the ambition to become one of the primary sports within the province and a serious contributor on the National Field Hockey stage. FHA is looking for a motivated and certified applicant with experience in sport program development and high-level competition experience. Experience with coaching indoor Field Hockey is a requirement.

Responsibilities and Deliverables for Field Hockey Alberta:

  • Responsible for the Implementation of the FHA Strategic plan
  • Operates independently and reports directly to the Development Committee and the Field Hockey Alberta (FHA) Technical Director (TD)
  • Expand programming and increase the level of play of field hockey within the province of Alberta in the prescribed regions.
  • Supervises, initiates, monitors, and advises on all field hockey technical matters
  • Responsible for coaching and developing both indoor and outdoor teams
  • Manages all coaches and trainers within the organizations and is responsible for their development

Position Description for the University of Calgary Dinos:

The Dinos Field Hockey program is the official women’s varsity field hockey team for the University of Calgary. The Dinos Field Hockey team competes in the strongest university league and division in Canada (Canada West Conference of U SPORTS). The Dinos are hiring a head coach to step into the program effective immediately for both the outdoor and indoor leagues. The ideal candidate has proven leadership and coaching experience and will be committed to leading the high-performance program to national recognition, focussed upon athletic and academic excellence, community engagement, student-athlete recruitment and retention, and the development of women’s field hockey.

Responsibilities and Deliverables for the University of Calgary Dinos:

  • Plans and executes technical and tactical practices and development of the Dinos Field Hockey programs (outdoor and indoor)
  • Enhances the team’s skills both on and off the pitch (field hockey skills and leadership attributes)
  • Develops student-athletes—promotes academic success and long-term healthy competition in sport
  • Champions field hockey in the athletics department at the University of Calgary—attends coaching and league meetings as required
  • Coordinates team competition and travel schedules and budgets (including lodging, transportation, and meal arrangements)
  • Establishes a recruiting plan to identify and attract quality prospective student-athletes throughout Canada to the University of Calgary

Start Date: Fall 2021

Compensation and Incentives:

Salary: $45,000 (starting negotiation)
