Good Luck to Stefanie Sloboda

Field Hockey Alberta would like to express our appreciation to Stefanie Sloboda for her field hockey work in Alberta.  We are sorry to announce her departure from FHA.  We were fortunate to have Stef as a team member and we are grateful for all of her hard work over the past three years.  We wish Stefanie well in her future endeavors in Vancouver.

Fall High Performance Academy Information

High Performance Academy Schedule:
The Academy sessions run every Thursday and Friday night until the week of November 13th.
Thursdays: 7:30-8:45pm and Fridays: 6:30-7:45pm

Friday September 25th 7:45-9:00pm

FHA is pleased to announce that Ken Pereira – Team Canada’s all time caps leader will be leading this weekends Academy in Calgary for all players and working with FHA coaches to continue to develop the coaching pathway set forth by FHA’s new year round training environment. Ken brings a wealth of field hockey knowledge and FHA is both honoured and excited that both its players and coaches will benefit from working with one of Canada’s greatest all-time players.

All community members invited to celebrate at free awards event The University of Alberta Alumni Association is pleased to announce Ms. Debra (Covey) Barnett will be inducted into the University of Alberta Sports Wall Of Fame for representing Canada in international competition and for her ongoing commitment to coaching. Her induction will be commemorated on Thursday, Sept. 24, at the annual Alumni Awards ceremony.

Debra (Covey) Barnett, ’83 BPE, ’89 MA, has devoted much of her life to field hockey. This Saskatchewan-born athlete grew up in Jasper and made her way to the University of Alberta in 1979. After serving as captain of the Pandas volleyball team, Barnett began her field hockey career. While keeping in top form playing for Canada’s senior national team, she moved behind the bench as an assistant coach for the Pandas field hockey team. She represented Canada at many international competitions, including the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul and the 1992 Games in Barcelona. Barnett has been an award-winning coach for more than 20 years, and her honours include national coaching awards and a spot in the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame. Barnett left Canada in 2000 and has since called the U.S., New Zealand and Australia home. She is currently the head coach of the Newtown City Hockey Club in Geelong, Australia.

The Alumni Association invites all community members to celebrate this outstanding alumna’s accomplishments and those of 27 other award recipients at the 2015 Alumni Awards.

Free Coaching Clinic September 13th!

Field Hockey Alberta is proud to partner with the University of Calgary to provide a free coaching clinic to all high school, regional and Calgary Junior Program coaches.


When: Sunday Sept 13th 2015, 9:00am-10:30 am (*with the possibility of a classroom session following the infield session)

Where: University of Calgary Hawking’s Field

Cougars & Astros practice venues changed for Sept 7th & 8th

Due to the holiday and turf repair Cougars & Astros U18 & U14 practice venues will change.
Astros club will practice from 7:30-8:30pm at the Calgary  Soccer Centre – 7000 48th Street SE

Cougars club will practice at 2:00pm at Queen Elizabeth High School
